Colombian Presidential Candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay Dies Two Months After Being Shot at Rally

Colombian presidential candidate and conservative senator Miguel Uribe Turbay has died two months after being shot in the head during a campaign rally.

Uribe, 39, passed away on Monday, August 11, at a hospital in Bogotá, the nation’s capital, his wife María Claudia Tarazona confirmed.

“Rest in peace, love of my life. I will take care of our children,” Tarazona wrote in a heartfelt social media post. “I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you.”

The attack occurred on June 7 while Uribe was delivering a campaign speech in a park in a working-class neighborhood of Bogotá. He was struck by three bullets—two to the head—and had been in intensive care since, experiencing only brief signs of improvement.

Authorities arrested a 15-year-old suspect at the scene of the shooting and have since detained several others in connection with the attack.
