A 32-year-old man named Rasaq Gafar was arraigned on Wednesday, August 6, before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of threatening the life of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
Gafar faces charges including threat to kill, threat to life, and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ojei, informed the court that Gafar used social media to send messages threatening the governor’s life and behaved in a way likely to disturb public peace.
According to Ojei, these actions violate Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
When the charges were read, Gafar pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Marvelous Ojeleye, requested the court to grant bail on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted bail set at N2.5 million, with two sureties of the same amount. One surety must own a landed property, while the other must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The court adjourned the case until November 13 for further hearing.
