The United States government has issued a stern warning to Nigerians: anyone caught engaging in visa fraud—including the use of forged documents—will face a lifetime ban from entering the U.S.

The announcement was made on Monday, July 21, via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria. The mission emphasized its commitment to cracking down on immigration fraud and illegal migration.

According to the statement, individuals found guilty of committing visa fraud or assisting others in entering or residing in the U.S. illegally will not only face permanent visa ineligibility but may also be prosecuted under U.S. criminal law.

The message read in part:

“U.S. government interagency efforts combat fraud and will end illegal immigration. Those who commit visa fraud will be banned from the United States for life.”

“A nation without borders is not a nation. We will pursue criminal charges against those who engage in visa fraud and those who bring in and harbor illegal aliens.”

The U.S. Mission urged Nigerians to remain informed and to always use legitimate channels when applying for visas, warning that fraudulent practices will not go unpunished.
