The Kano State Government has ordered a full-scale investigation into the tragic deaths of two students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, following a fatal attack allegedly carried out by fellow students within the school premises.

According to reports, senior students of the school allegedly accused the deceased—identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa—of wrongdoing and assaulted them using improvised metal objects locally known as ‘Gwale-Gwale.’

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 16, by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the government vowed that no one would be spared once investigations are concluded.

“The Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind this tragic incident,” the statement read.

The statement added that the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Baffa Muhammad, has directed that a thorough and transparent investigation be launched immediately.

During a visit to the school, Muhammad cautioned students against taking the law into their own hands.

“You should avoid taking the law into your hands and instead report any concerns to school authorities for appropriate action. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray to Almighty Allah to grant the souls of the deceased Jannatul Firdaus,” the Permanent Secretary said.

Grieving family members of the deceased have appealed for justice. Malam Ibrahim Yusuf Dungurawa, a relative of Umar Yusuf, said the family was devastated by the news and urged the government to ensure justice is served.

Similarly, Malam Idris Garba Tofawa, father of the late Hamza Idris, described the loss as a divine test and called on the authorities to act decisively in bringing the perpetrators to book.
