Hadiza Mohammed, daughter of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared a lasting lesson her father instilled in her and her siblings — never to take what belongs to others.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, July 16, at Buhari’s private residence in Daura, Katsina State, Hadiza — popularly known as Nana — recalled a childhood incident that left a lasting impression.

“I’ll never forget when we were children, Baba sent us to buy exercise books. After the purchase, we had N15 left as change,” she recounted.

“Instead of returning the money, we stopped by a shop and spent it on sweets. When we got home, Baba asked for the change, and we told him we’d spent it.

He said, ‘You were supposed to bring back the change. It’s up to me to decide whether you can keep it or not.’”

She said that moment drove home his teaching: “Don’t take what belongs to others.”

“We thank God for the good upbringing we received from Baba,” she added.
