Mamman Daura, nephew of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared details of the former leader’s final moments.
In an interview with ThisDay, Daura revealed that he was with Buhari on Saturday, July 12, and that preparations were already underway for the former president’s return to Nigeria.
According to him, efforts were being made to settle the hotel bills of those who had traveled to London to support Buhari ahead of his planned discharge.
“I was with him on Saturday, and he was in high spirits,” Daura recounted. “We talked about everything. He was at the London Clinic where he was receiving treatment and had even made plans to return to Nigeria within the week. He also ensured arrangements were made to sort out the hotel bills of everyone who had come to London on his behalf.”
Daura said he left Buhari around 9 p.m. on Saturday, intending to return the next day. The former president, he noted, was eagerly awaiting a scheduled visit from his doctor on Sunday morning.
However, things took a sudden turn for the worse. “Around midday on Sunday, he began experiencing breathing difficulties, and doctors rushed to assist,” Daura said. “Despite their best efforts, he passed away at about 4:30 p.m.”
