Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, have paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, following his passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Leading the Nigerian delegation, Shettima and Gbajabiamila arrived in the United Kingdom early Monday to personally offer their sympathies and receive the body of the late president for repatriation to Nigeria.
They were received by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, and other officials present at the London residence.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement on Sunday, had directed both Shettima and Gbajabiamila to represent the Federal Government in coordinating the return of Buhari’s remains and ensuring the former leader is given a dignified burial in accordance with national and religious traditions.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as military ruler from 1983 to 1985, leaves behind a legacy that continues to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.
