Nigerian music executive and entrepreneur, Ubi Franklin, is grieving the devastating loss of his beloved sister, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.
In an emotional tribute shared on social media, Ubi described her as one of life’s greatest gifts the woman who played a pivotal role in shaping the person he has become.
“Today, death visited me and took one of the most precious gifts life handed me… my sister.
The one who birthed the Ubi Franklin you all know. The one who opened my eyes to what life truly is,” he wrote.
Reflecting on their bond, Ubi recalled how life changed after the death of their father in 2004. He moved in with his sister and her husband in Abuja — a move that would eventually change the course of his life. During a holiday trip she arranged in 2005, Ubi was taken to Lagos for the first time, unknowingly setting him on the path to his career in entertainment.
“She would always remind me: ‘Before anyone else, you were my PA.’ She never stopped calling me that even in her final days.”
Ubi shared that he had been by her side from April through early July before traveling to the UK. On July 3rd, he bid her goodbye, hopeful for another reunion. Sadly, she returned to Abuja shortly after, where her health declined rapidly. She was moved to the ICU — and tragically passed while Ubi was still in the air en route to be with her.
“I did everything within my power to make it to Abuja. But while I was airborne… she passed on.”
He arrived in Abuja around 4:20 a.m., but the heartbreaking news wasn’t shared with him until hours later.
Despite the overwhelming grief, Ubi expressed gratitude for the time they shared and the profound impact she had on his life.
“This is one of the biggest losses of my life.
But I am thankful I got to know her, walk with her, and be shaped by her.”
Remembered as selfless, kind, and genuinely good, Ubi’s sister touched the lives of many — traits echoed by those now mourning her passing alongside him.
“This hurts deeply. It has left a scar in my heart.
But I will forever love you. And I know… you’re in a better place.”
