A 23-year-old petrol station attendant, Grace Godwin, has been tragically killed after reportedly falling victim to a suspected ‘one chance’ kidnapping syndicate in Abuja.

Grace’s lifeless body was discovered early Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, along Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident was confirmed by Comrade Adanu Andrew, President of the Voice of Apa and Agatu Initiative for Development, who revealed that Grace hailed from Ekaida, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a public statement, Mr. Andrew dismissed rumors circulating on social media suggesting that Grace had left for a hookup. He described the late young woman as “well-disciplined, cultured, and hardworking,” firmly stating that she was simply on her way home from work on Friday, July 11, when she was abducted.

According to him, Grace’s kidnappers had contacted her family with a demand for ₦1 million ransom. Tragically, before any rescue efforts could be finalized, the family came across a social media post reporting her death.

“The general public is hereby informed that the lifeless body of a young woman was found on Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in Jabi-Abuja this morning,” Mr. Andrew wrote.

“Contrary to misleading reports on Facebook, she did not go for a hookup. Grace was our daughter from Ekaida, Agatu LGA, and was abducted while returning from work by a ‘one-chance’ vehicle yesterday. Her abductors demanded ₦1 million, and her family was already making arrangements for her release when they heard of her death online.”

He mourned Grace as a young woman who earned her living through honest work and fell victim to a ruthless crime.

“She was a well-disciplined and cultured young lady who worked hard to earn a living, sadly falling victim to the wickedness of those who seek to make money by all means. May God grant her eternal rest and console her family.”

This heartbreaking case highlights the growing danger of ‘one chance’ operations in Abuja and other urban centers, where unsuspecting commuters are abducted, extorted, or harmed by criminals posing as public transport operators.
