Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lose the 2027 general election — even if his son, Seyi Tinubu, is appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Dalung made the statement during an interview with New Central on Friday, July 4, where he criticised the current administration, accusing it of deepening poverty and hardship in Nigeria.

“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn,” Dalung said. “The government of President Bola Tinubu has declared war on the Nigerian people. It has weaponized poverty, hunger, and hardship, while promoting corruption, impunity, and injustice.”

He asserted that the only viable path forward for the country lies in a united opposition, rallying around a new political coalition being formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to Dalung, this coalition aims to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.

“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement, reposition ourselves, and confront the government in 2027,” he said.

Dalung expressed confidence that Nigerians would reject the current leadership at the polls, regardless of any perceived attempts by the presidency to manipulate institutions.

“Like I told President Tinubu, even if all 36 state governors defect to the APC, and he appoints his son, Seyi Tinubu, as INEC chairman — even if he names his wife the Chief Justice of Nigeria — he will still be defeated in 2027,” Dalung stated.

Opposition figures have recently announced the formation of a new coalition under the ADC banner. The group includes several influential politicians, including former governors, lawmakers, and ministers, who aim to form a united front against the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
