Social critic Martis Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has accused staff at the Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos of allegedly refusing to attend to accident victims who were rushed to the facility by concerned Nigerians.
According to VDM, a serious accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge, leaving several motorists with severe injuries, while some reportedly plunged into the lagoon and remain unaccounted for. He claimed that a group of good Samaritans, including a close friend of his, managed to rescue some of the injured and took them to Gbagada General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, VDM alleged that hospital staff were more concerned about payment than the critical condition of the victims. He claimed that a male victim in need of an urgent blood transfusion was not attended to because the hospital demanded a payment of ₦50,000 before treatment. Even after ₦40,000 was raised, he said the staff refused to proceed until the full amount was paid.
Tragically, VDM said the man who required the transfusion eventually died. He condemned the hospital staff, accusing them of lacking compassion in the face of a medical emergency.
As of the time of this report, Gbagada General Hospital has not issued a response to the allegations.
