Boston University has issued a statement in response to allegations made by podcast host Alex Cooper, who claimed she experienced inappropriate behavior from a former coach during her time on the university’s women’s soccer team.
In her newly released documentary Call Her Alex, Cooper alleges that a female coach exhibited an unusual fixation on her, asking invasive questions about her sex life and punishing her when she refused to respond. She recounted being benched during a match for not sharing personal information, describing the experience as deeply uncomfortable and emotionally distressing. According to Cooper, she and her parents reported the incident to university officials at the time, but no action was taken. The situation ultimately prompted her to leave the team before her senior year.
Following the release of the documentary, several former Boston University women’s soccer players came forward with similar claims, increasing public scrutiny and prompting a response from the university.
On Thursday night, Boston University released a statement addressing the allegations:
“Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. We have a robust system of resources, support, and staff dedicated to student wellbeing, along with a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office,” the statement read. “We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all.”
Cooper, now 30, played for the Terriers from 2013 to 2015, appearing in 49 games and recording one goal and one assist, according to her official team biography.
As of now, Cooper has not publicly responded to the university’s statement.
