President William Ruto of Kenya has humorously remarked that the country may be facing a new kind of brain drain — this time in the form of cross-border marriages — after both of his daughters married Nigerian men.
Speaking at a wedding ceremony in a video that has since gone viral, President Ruto playfully commented on the growing trend of Kenyan women choosing Nigerian partners over Kenyan men.
“My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and now this one is also married to a Nigerian,” he said, referring to his daughters. “And our guys are just around… I don’t know, are you slow? We need to balance this scale, because at this rate, we’re going to have a brain drain from Kenya.”
