Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms and ammunition during a clearance operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to military authorities, the operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, following credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s whereabouts in Hura village.
During a subsequent raid on the suspect’s hideout, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, a cash sum of ₦2,500, and items believed to be charms.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in the killing of a herder and the rustling of 1,250 cows in Tomborong village, Riyom Local Government Area, on May 27.
“The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators regarding the identities and locations of other syndicate members and their weapons cache,” a military source stated.
Troops have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the group responsible for the recent wave of criminal activities in the area.
