Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has once again dropped strong hints about a possible departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a potential move toward the All Progressives Congress (APC)—though he carefully avoided naming the party directly.

Speaking during a state banquet in Uyo on Thursday, May 29, to mark his second anniversary in office, Eno expressed continued affection for the PDP but acknowledged that his political journey may be entering a new phase.

“I respect our party, the PDP. I love the PDP. But we all know the way things are,” the governor said. “So, whatever happens, wherever the journey of life takes me, I will always love you. We’ve built strong friendships, and we will always keep them.”

While Governor Eno stopped short of officially announcing a defection, his recent actions suggest a slow but steady alignment with the APC. He has been seen engaging more frequently with influential APC leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio—moves that many interpret as groundwork for a 2027 political realignment.

“If you have anything to do, invite me, I will come. I will always be there. But it’s time to progressively move,” he told the audience at the banquet, implying a shift in ideology or allegiance. “That again will not affect anything in this state. We do not govern based on political affiliations.”

Eno’s comments reflect a broader trend of quiet repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections, as key players across the country weigh their options in a changing political landscape.
