The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists and recovered firearms in the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Timfon John, spokesperson for the command, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Uyo.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspects were apprehended at their hideout in Ikot Etuk village on Wednesday, following credible intelligence.
During the operation, officers recovered one locally made pistol, one fabricated single-barrel gun, and assorted charms.
The suspects have voluntarily provided valuable information about their criminal activities. This includes their involvement in a recent attack on Fulani herdsmen, which led to the killing of two cows. The stolen cattle were reportedly distributed among various cult groups within Ibesikpo Asutan, DSP John explained.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons used in their operations.
The police spokesperson assured that further updates would be communicated to the public as the situation develops.
