Mohamed Salah has been crowned Premier League Player of the Season, capping off a stellar campaign in which the Liverpool forward scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists—five more goals than any other player.
The Egyptian international, now 32, enters the final match of the season against Crystal Palace just two assists short of matching the single-season record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The prestigious award, decided through a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts, marks the second time Salah has received the honour, having first claimed it in the 2017–18 season. His win ends Manchester City’s four-year hold on the award. The last non-City player to win it was Salah’s Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk in 2018–19.
Van Dijk, who signed a contract extension with Liverpool earlier this season, was among those shortlisted alongside Salah. Other nominees included Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
This accolade is Salah’s second major individual honour this month. He was earlier named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, securing nearly 90 percent of the votes—the largest winning margin in the award’s history this century.
