An Akure Magistrate’s Court has issued a restraining order against a man, Mr. Ademola Adesina, prohibiting him from loitering or spending the night at the family residence of his estranged wife, Mrs. Iyabo Omoleye.
The order was issued after Omoleye brought the matter before the court, alleging that her husband had neglected his responsibilities towards their children and had been abusive throughout their marriage.
She revealed that Adesina had abandoned the family for over six months and only returned to forcibly take custody of the children, despite his prolonged absence and lack of support.
According to her, the respondent had consistently failed to provide for the children, purportedly claiming he saw no personal benefit in doing so.
She also accused him of only reappearing to harass her and loiter around her family home, where she and the children currently reside.
In his defense, Adesina presented a different account, stating that peace prevailed in their home until he was imprisoned.
Upon his release, he alleged to have discovered his wife three months pregnant, a pregnancy she reportedly terminated, leading to suspicions of infidelity during his incarceration.
He further claimed that his wife ridiculed his sexual performance, unfavorably comparing him to her alleged lovers.
Adesina asserted that he was now homeless and unemployed, mentioning that his wife had taken over the rent for their apartment and subsequently evicted him.
He expressed his distress at being left with no choice but to sleep at the doorstep of his wife’s family home.
Adesina also mentioned that his children had been influenced and now hardly acknowledged him as their father.
In delivering the ruling, Hon. Justice A.E. Akeredolu advised Adesina to concentrate on rebuilding his life and securing a means of livelihood, rather than returning to the premises of his wife’s family home.
“The respondent is hereby prohibited from sleeping at his wife’s family residence.
