President Bola Tinubu has submitted a ₦1.48 trillion 2025 budget proposal for Rivers State to the National Assembly. The move, made on Thursday, May 22, follows the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s original 2025 budget and the ongoing emergency rule declared in the state.

In his communication to the federal legislature, President Tinubu explained that the proposed budget is essential to ensure continuity of governance and public services in Rivers State under the current emergency administration.

According to the breakdown of the proposed budget:

  • ₦324 billion is allocated to infrastructure development,
  • ₦166 billion for healthcare,
  • ₦75.6 billion for education, and
  • ₦31.4 billion for agriculture.

The President also noted that the agricultural component of the budget is projected to create approximately 6,000 jobs for the people of Rivers State.

Calling for swift legislative approval, Tinubu urged lawmakers to act in the best interest of Rivers residents, stressing the urgency of the situation.

This budget proposal comes just two months after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in March 2025. The declaration was made in response to the escalating political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor and political ally-turned-rival, Nyesom Wike.
