Suspected kidnappers have abducted 76-year-old retired Nigerian Army Major and cleric, Pastor Josiah Ajayi, in Kogi State, throwing the local community into shock and concern.

Ajayi, who also once served as the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Kabba-Bunu chapter, was taken from his home in Odo-Ape—a quiet farming village located along the busy Kabba-Obajana-Lokoja highway.

The abduction reportedly took place late Wednesday night, May 21, 2025, around 11:30 p.m. Eyewitnesses say the gunmen invaded the area and fired gunshots for over an hour, causing panic among residents before seizing the retired army officer and fleeing to an unknown location.

As of the time of this report, the kidnappers had not made any contact with the family or issued any demands.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the community, with residents calling on security agencies to step up patrols and take urgent steps to curb the rising wave of insecurity in the region.
