Hillary Clinton has shared how her mother taught her the value of courage.
The former U.S. presidential candidate took to social media on Sunday, May 11, to celebrate her mother on Mother’s Day in the U.S.
In a heartfelt post, Clinton recalled an incident from her childhood when her mother encouraged her to stand up to a bully.
She wrote, “When I was a young child, I went outside to play, and the other kids started pushing me around. I ran back to the house, crying, and my mother met me at the door.”
Her mother, with a firm yet gentle tone, told her, “There’s no room for cowards in this house. You go right back out there and stand up for yourself.”
Clinton continued, “So, I went back out and said, ‘I’m here. I want to play.’ A girl who had been especially mean to me came over and pushed me. I pushed her right back, and she was surprised, as bullies often are.”
“I owe so much to my mother, including that formative lesson in courage,” she added.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all.”
