The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a public warning about fraudsters impersonating the agency and promoting fake postgraduate scholarship opportunities.
In a statement released on Sunday from Port Harcourt, the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, revealed that scammers have been soliciting money from unsuspecting individuals under the pretense of securing placements in the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Program.
Thompson-Wakama disclosed that the NDDC had received reports of fraudulent emails and messages sent to applicants, falsely claiming to originate from the agency’s “Board Registry.” These messages, sent from [email protected], invited recipients to attend a fake document verification and authentication exercise scheduled for May 19–21 on Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She emphasized that the NDDC has no affiliation with this supposed exercise and branded the entire operation as a scam. All official communication regarding the commission’s scholarship programs is conducted exclusively through its official portal: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.
The NDDC advised applicants to disregard any unsolicited messages requesting money, personal information, or offering placements outside of verified channels. Victims or recipients of such fraudulent messages are encouraged to report them promptly to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Thompson-Wakama urged all Nigerians interested in the NDDC’s educational initiatives to rely solely on the commission’s verified platforms for accurate and up-to-date information.
