The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden death of an 80-year-old Colombian national, Quesada Vanegas Ricardo Alfonso, whose lifeless body was discovered at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Festac Town.
According to police sources, a distress call was received on May 1, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., reporting the discovery of the deceased in Room C85 on the 8th floor of the hotel.
A police team, including homicide detectives, was immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been residing at the hotel for over four months prior to his death. No signs of violence or foul play were found on his body.
“The corpse was evacuated and transported to the morgue at Mainland General Hospital in Yaba, where it has been preserved for autopsy. A coroner’s inquest and other necessary procedures have been initiated, and the investigation is ongoing,” a source told security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Furthermore, several hotel management staff were briefly detained for failing to maintain accurate guest records. They have since been released pending the outcome of the investigation.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death.
