The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended a suspect allegedly using commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, to traffic illicit drugs across the city.

According to a statement released on Monday, April 28, 2025, by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the arrest was made as part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental decorum and uphold a zero-tolerance policy against illegal drug activities in the Lagos metropolis.

“In its continued efforts to maintain environmental decorum and enforce a zero-tolerance stance against illicit drug activities within the Lagos metropolis, the Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its operations against commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders),” the statement read.

The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, Soji Inawole, 40, while another accomplice, identified as Mufu, remains at large. The duo is accused of using motorcycles to distribute illicit drugs across various locations in Lagos.

Authorities also suspect the individuals are involved in additional criminal activities, including bag snatching, pickpocketing, and shoplifting.

During the raid, officers uncovered a stash of illegal substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotic drugs, scissors, and other contraband concealed in a school bag.

Further investigations revealed that certain Okada riders in the area were actively aiding the drug trade by transporting substances between brothels and other locations. Several motorcycles used in these operations were impounded for violating traffic laws and facilitating criminal activity.

“This discovery underscores the increasing threat posed by the misuse of commercial motorcycles for criminal purposes and reinforces the need for continued enforcement against non-compliant riders who jeopardize public safety,” the statement noted.

Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.

“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities that compromise the security of our communities. The suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue,” Akerele stated.

He also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the agency’s ‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative.

The operation took place around Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ijaiye Bus Stop, and Agbado Railway Station Road. It forms part of a broader crackdown aimed at restoring order and promoting a drug-free society.

The arrested suspect has since been charged to court for prosecution.
