Jude Bellingham Faces Potential 12-Match Ban for Alleged Insult Towards Referee
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is facing a possible 12-match suspension after allegedly using foul language toward the referee during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna.
Bellingham was shown a red card by referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero in the 39th minute for reportedly using abusive language. The referee accused Bellingham of saying, “F*** you,” but the England star insists he only said, “f*** off,” directed at himself in frustration rather than the official.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti weighed in after the match, stating, “I think the referee didn’t understand Jude’s English. He said ‘f*** off,’ not ‘f*** you’… that’s very different.”
It is unclear whether Madrid will appeal in an attempt to have the red card overturned. If not, Bellingham could face a suspension that would see him miss several important matches, including La Liga games against Girona, Betis, and Rayo Vallecano, as well as the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad.
According to the Spanish FA’s disciplinary code, players found guilty of insulting or addressing the referee in an offensive manner could face a suspension ranging from four to 12 matches.
