Angry Mob Kills Two Men in Abuja After Alleged ‘One-Chance’ Robbery Attempt
An angry mob has killed two men along the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway in Abuja after they were accused of robbing a woman and throwing her out of their moving vehicle.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, when the suspects, believed to be operating in a commercial vehicle, were accused of robbing a woman traveling from Gosa to the city.
Witnesses claimed the suspects took the woman’s belongings and then pushed her out of the vehicle. The woman was nearly hit by a vehicle behind them, but the driver managed to stop just in time. The driver then began chasing the robbers and honking to alert others on the road.
As the pursuit continued, more motorists and bystanders joined in. The robbers’ escape was blocked at ACO Estate Junction when another motorist stopped their path. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but the growing mob quickly overpowered them.
One of the suspects was caught first, severely beaten, and set on fire by the mob. The second suspect was thrown into a roadside gutter, where he appeared motionless, leading many to believe he was dead.
However, a witness who had been recording the events realized the second suspect was still alive. The mob then began interrogating him, asking questions about his identity and background. When asked where he was from, he said Ogun State and confirmed he was Yoruba.
The mob, initially thinking he was dead, gathered again and resumed their assault. They poured fuel on him, intending to set him on fire. The suspect attempted to escape, weak from earlier beatings, and ran toward a nearby church, possibly seeking refuge. Someone shouted for them not to kill him there, and the mob dragged him away to another property.
The mob continued their brutal attack, pelting him with stones until he died. The vehicle allegedly used in the robbery was also set ablaze by the mob.
