In a joint operation, the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, have uncovered the remains of two kidnapped police officers at a camp associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
This discovery resulted from a raid on several camps of the IPOB/ESN along Umulolo – Umukele – Amousu and Agbobu in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The military operation faced challenges, encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the route. Despite this, the troops successfully stormed and destroyed the terrorists’ hideouts, cordoning off and searching various buildings used by the group.
During the search, signs of terrorist activities, occult practices, and acts of cannibalism by the group were uncovered. The troops also dismantled the IED making factory of the terrorists.
Among the recovered items were rank badges of two kidnapped policemen from Enugu-Port Harcourt road, Biafran currencies, fake US Dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, and other insignia. Additionally, military kit bags, cables for IED detonation, and axes were seized. Two suspects were apprehended, and the charred remains of the murdered policemen were recovered for proper burial.
In a separate incident in Owerri Metropolis, troops on night patrol successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists. A gun duel ensued, forcing the criminals to abandon the victim. The security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle and magazine, a G-3 rifle with mounted magazines, and the vehicle used by the terrorists.
