Governor Hope Uzodimma took the decisive step of dissolving his cabinet on Tuesday, just a day after being sworn in for his second term as the Governor of Imo State.
The announcement came during a meeting held at the Sam Mbawke Executive Chambers in the Government House, Owerri. Expressing gratitude to all cabinet members and appointees for their contributions during his first term, the governor apologized for any grievances and pledged an inclusive approach for the betterment and development of the state in his second term.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized the constitutional conclusion of his first tenure and the commencement of his second, necessitating a restructuring of the system to align with current realities. The next step involves the formation of a new cabinet, with commissioner-nominees expected to be sent to the state assembly for confirmation.
On Monday, the governor took the oath of office around 3:24 pm at the Dan Ayiam Stadium in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Lady Chinyere Ekomaru’s inauguration as the deputy governor preceded the governor’s oath-taking, with thousands of Imo residents and guests present at the event.
Prominent figures such as President Bola Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders attended the ceremony.
In his address, Governor Uzodimma pledged to surpass his first-term performance, expressing gratitude to the people of the state for their support. Drawing inspiration from Apostle Paul in the Bible, he committed to doing more for Imo in his second term.
Uzodimma extended appreciation to President Tinubu for attending the event, acknowledging his consistent support for both him and the state.
