President Bola Tinubu Joins Dignitaries in Wreath-Laying Ceremony for 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

President Bola Tinubu, alongside various dignitaries, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony held in Abuja to commemorate the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The event saw the presence of all service chiefs, led by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Christopher Musa, as well as heads of other security agencies, who also laid wreaths in honor of fallen heroes.

The annual program, dedicated to remembering Nigeria’s fallen heroes, featured additional activities such as prayers, gun salutes, and the symbolic release of pigeons at the National Arcade, Eagle Square, Abuja. Attendees included members of the Federal Executive Council, diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Senate President Godswill Akpabio reassured that lawmakers are committed to improving the welfare of the country’s military.

Governors Across States Pay Tribute

In Kaduna State, Governor Sani Uba led dignitaries in commemorating the day, with members of the Kaduna State Executive Council joining the wreath-laying ceremony at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Similar ceremonies took place in other states, including Taraba, where Governor Kefas Agbu led dignitaries in honoring fallen heroes at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.

Governor Godwin Obaseki inspected a guard of honor at the cenotaph in Benin City, while at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu laid wreaths to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

Political Leaders Express Gratitude

Beyond governors, political leaders like Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) expressed gratitude and paid tributes to the fallen heroes. Obi acknowledged the sacrifices made by the military in ensuring peace and security within Nigeria’s borders. In a statement, he emphasized the need for continued support and solidarity for the armed forces, especially in the challenging times of the country’s fight against terrorism, violence, and insecurity.
