The National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Stella Effah-Attoe, has passed away. She was a member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and succumbed to a brief illness on Sunday.
In a statement, PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba expressed the party’s deep sorrow at the loss of one of its “best and brightest” members. He remarked, “Prof. Effah-Attoe’s passing is not only a profound loss to her family but also to the PDP, the academic community, the people of Cross River State, and indeed the entire nation.”
Prof. Effah-Attoe was known for her unwavering dedication to education, politics, authorship, and fearless advocacy for justice, equity, and fairness. She devoted her energy, passion, and resources to championing the rights of women in Nigeria. Over the years, she held positions as Commissioner for Education and later Commissioner for Information and Culture in Cross River State, served as a member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, participated on the Governing Boards of several Cross River State and Federal Government Agencies and Programs, and established herself as a prominent university professor and one of Nigeria’s most decorated scholars.
The PDP highlighted her tireless contributions, alongside other PDP leaders, to the party’s efforts to rejuvenate and strengthen itself in preparation for the 2023 general elections, aligning with the mission to rescue, rebuild, and redirect the nation from misrule.
While her passing creates a significant void within the party, the PDP takes solace in the knowledge that she led a devout Christian life, excelled in her chosen path, and left an indelible mark in the service of the nation and humanity.
The PDP extended its heartfelt condolences to her family, the people of Ikun in the Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, the academic community, the Cross River State Chapter of the PDP, and the citizens of Cross River State.
