The Director of Media and Publicity for the Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Peremobowei Tobi Tukuwei, tragically lost his life in a boating accident.

The incident occurred during the party’s campaign visit to Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area while en route to Ogbia in Ogbia LGA on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

The lifeless body of the deceased was discovered late in the evening on Thursday following a collaborative search effort involving marine search parties and relevant authorities.

Tukuwei had previously been employed by Africa Independent Television before his appointment as the Media and Publicity Director for the State APC Campaign Council for the governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023.

In response to this tragic event, the State APC Chairman, Dennis Otiotio, declared the suspension of campaign activities by the council on Thursday.

“The Bayelsa State APC Governorship Campaign Council regrets to announce the suspension of our scheduled campaigns set for October 26, 2023, at Nembe-Ogbolomabiri and Nembe-Bassambiri,” he stated. “This decision is a result of an unfortunate boating accident that occurred during our campaign activities today. At present, one of our esteemed Campaign Council members remains unaccounted for. We have alerted the appropriate authorities, and search parties are actively involved in the situation.

“We will take a one-day break to assess the situation before resuming our campaigns on Friday at Ogbolomabiri and Bassambiri, followed by our visit to Brass on Saturday and Sunday to conclude the Bayelsa East Campaigns.”
