Overnight airstrikes on the Gaza Strip resulted in the reported deaths of at least 55 people, according to a statement from the Hamas government on Sunday. Israel had announced an escalation in its airstrikes. The statement mentioned “more than 55 martyrs” and reported the destruction of over 30 homes following an Israeli military announcement of increased raids.

The Hamas government claimed that over 4,300 people, primarily civilians, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since the conflict began, triggered by attacks on Israel on October 7, which resulted in 1,400 deaths, primarily civilians.

Israel had assembled a substantial number of troops around Gaza, hinting at a potential ground invasion. The Israeli military spokesperson mentioned an increase in airstrikes for safety reasons, encouraging Gaza City residents to move south.

Israel had previously advised the 1.1 million residents in the northern Gaza region to relocate south in anticipation of a ground operation.

Additionally, the Hamas government expressed concern over the insufficiency of aid despite the arrival of 20 trucks in the Palestinian territory on Saturday. They stated that there were now 1.4 million displaced people in Gaza and urged the international community to pressure Israel to allow more aid trucks into the area.
