Justice Emmanuel Iyanna of the Chief District Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has issued a restraining order against on-air personality Kayode Oladotun, popularly known as Do2dtun, prohibiting him from posting defamatory content about singer Oladapo Oyebanjo, also known as D’banj, on social media or any other platform.
According to reports from Punch, the court has also instructed the Deputy Inspector of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, to investigate a criminal complaint filed by D’banj against Do2dtun within a two-week timeframe and provide a report to the court.
This court order was granted on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in the case with Motion No: MN/218/2023. D’banj, represented by one of his lawyers, Toheeb Lawal from the Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor, had filed an application at the court seeking an injunction to prevent Do2dtun from making alleged malicious and defamatory posts about him on social media.
The court, in granting the application, named D’banj as the complainant and Do2dtun as the respondent and issued an order “restraining the defendant (Do2dtun) or anyone associated with him from making any further malicious, intimidating, or defamatory posts directed at the complainant (D’banj) on any social media platform (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, etc.) or news media until the substantive case is heard and determined.”
Furthermore, the court instructed the Deputy Inspector of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, to conduct a thorough investigation of the criminal complaint made by D’banj against Do2dtun within a two-week period and report the findings back to the court.
In recent weeks, Do2dtun had taken to social media to demand access to his two children, who are currently under the custody of his estranged wife, Taiwo Oyebanji, who happens to be the sister of the singer DBanj. The couple, married since 2013, has two children.
Notably, in November 2021, Taiwo had filed for divorce before Justice A.I Akobi of Court 23, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, in Suit Number: GWD/PET/25/2021. Her claim was based on alleged “unending reckless emotional abuse, forced abortion, and vicious domestic violence” by Do2dtun, which she asserted had negatively affected her health and overall well-being.
While Do2dtun claimed that he had been denied access to his daughters, Taiwo refuted this and maintained that he was fully aware of how and where he could see them. Do2dtun had publicly called out DBanj in response and even threatened to release DBanj’s telephone number online.
