Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, emphasizes that Nigeria must be prepared to face formidable teams from across the continent if they aspire to be crowned champions at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria is eager to clinch their fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire next year and boasts a formidable squad featuring talents like Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Samuel Chukwueze.

Peseiro’s squad finds themselves in Group A alongside the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, as well as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

The Portuguese coach firmly believes that his team must be fully prepared for a challenging AFCON campaign.

“If we intend to secure the AFCON title, we need to be ready to take on any opponent. Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau are all formidable teams. To win the AFCON, we must first top our group,” Peseiro conveyed during a press conference following the Super Eagles’ friendly match against Saudi Arabia in Portimao, Portugal on Friday night.

“It’s not going to be a walk in the park because, in a tournament, anything can happen. We must ensure that all the pieces are in place, and maintain unwavering focus in such a short tournament.

“We are determined to win our group and advance to the next stage. But before that, we must face Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Our ultimate goal is securing a spot in the next World Cup.”

The Super Eagles will commence their 2023 AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alhassan Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe on January 14, 2024.

Cote d’Ivoire is set to host the competition, which will run from January 13 to February 11.
