The Borno State Police Command apprehended Umar Goni Abubakar, a 25-year-old man, in connection with the fatal stabbing of Zarami Modu at the Water Board IDP Camp in Monguno Local Government Area.
CP Muhammad Yusufu, the State Commissioner of Police, revealed this development during a press briefing held in Maiduguri on Monday, October 9, 2023. According to CP Yusufu, the suspect attacked Modu with a sharp knife due to suspicions that he was attempting to seduce his wife, Hajja Fantami.
Abubakar is one of 507 individuals taken into custody for a variety of offenses over the past three months, including rape, culpable homicide, incitement of disturbances, causing serious harm, burglary, theft, public disturbances, and kidnapping.
The CP provided the following details: “On September 16, 2023, at approximately 10:45 AM, Umar Goni Abubakar, a 25-year-old resident of Water Board IDP Camp Monguno, used a sharp knife to attack Zarami Modu, a 35-year-old individual residing at the same location. As a result of the attack, the victim suffered fatal injuries. The incident stemmed from an encounter on September 15, 2023, when Abubakar observed the deceased standing with his wife, Hajja Fantami, at the water pump and suspected Modu of attempting to engage with his spouse. The suspect is in custody, and the case is presently under investigation.”
