Barcelona is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Lionel Messi back to his boyhood team on loan in January, should Inter Miami fail to secure a spot in the MLS playoffs.

Messi departed Barcelona during the summer of 2021, joining PSG due to the club’s financial constraints. Subsequently, he made a move to Inter Miami in the United States.

According to a report by the Spanish publication Sport, LaLiga’s Barcelona is contemplating an extraordinary move to provide Messi with a fitting farewell.

In the event that Inter Miami does not qualify for the MLS playoffs, Barcelona is considering the option of signing him on loan in January, during the European transfer window.

It’s important to note that as of now, there have been no formal discussions with Inter Miami regarding this potential move. However, it is an option that Barcelona is actively exploring.

Inter Miami currently finds itself five points adrift of a playoff position in the Eastern Conference, with just three regular-season games remaining.
