Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has openly acknowledged his past mistakes, including his affair with the family’s housekeeper.
In a recent interview with People magazine, published on Sunday, October 1, Arnold candidly described his extramarital relationship with housekeeper Mildred Baena, which led to the end of his marriage to Maria Shriver in 2011, as a significant error in judgment.
Schwarzenegger and Baena’s affair resulted in the birth of a child named Joseph, who arrived just five days after the former California Governor welcomed his son Christopher with Shriver.
Despite the revelation that shattered their marriage, Schwarzenegger, now 76 years old, emphasized that he and the journalist, Maria Shriver, who is 67, maintain an amicable relationship. He stated:
“I take full responsibility for my actions. It’s important to note that Maria and I didn’t engage in a feud. My connection with Maria will endure indefinitely. While our relationship has evolved, my feelings towards her remain rooted in love.”
“We consistently prioritized our children’s well-being throughout this challenging time. We both have our separate lives, with Maria focusing on her own relationships, and me with Heather Milligan. However, we maintain open communication regarding our children, holidays, birthday parties, and celebrations like Mother’s Day and Christmas.”
Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021. This delay was primarily due to the absence of a prenuptial agreement and the need to navigate a complex property settlement.
Schwarzenegger began a relationship with physical therapist Heather Milligan in 2013. Remarkably, the couple continues to thrive today, despite a significant 27-year age gap.
As for Shriver, she subsequently pursued a relationship with political analyst Matthew Dowd. However, it is believed that their relationship came to an end in late 2020.
