President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a nationwide address on Sunday, shortly after his return to the country from a two-week visit to participate in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The nationwide broadcast is a significant component of the week-long celebrations commemorating the nation’s 63rd independence anniversary.
President Tinubu arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja late last night, where he was warmly welcomed by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other esteemed government dignitaries.
Tinubu participated in the 78th UNGA and, during his inaugural address at the Assembly, emphasized the importance of Africa overcoming external exploitation in order to achieve prosperity through the promotion of democratic principles.
“In regard to Africa, our aim is not to become a mere appendage or patron. We have no desire to substitute old shackles with new ones,” he articulated during his address at the commencement of the 78th session of the assembly held at the UN Headquarters.
He engaged with fellow heads of state on September 20, shortly after similar addresses, including those delivered by US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Nigerian leader delved into the theme ‘Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and Its Sustainable Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All.’
Tinubu noted that despite numerous proclamations, “our challenges persist in our immediate vicinity.”
The President engaged in bilateral discussions with various global leaders during the United Nations General Assembly’s sidelines.
