Las Vegas police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with the 1996 shooting of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was taken into custody early on Friday morning, September 29. While the exact charges have not been immediately disclosed, an indictment is expected later today, according to AP reports.

Tupac Shakur was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996. He tragically passed away in the hospital six days later, on September 13, at the age of 25.

Davis has openly admitted in interviews and detailed in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” that he was present in the Cadillac from which the gunfire erupted during the shooting, as reported by the AP.

In July of this year, Las Vegas police executed a search warrant at the Henderson, Nevada, residence of Davis’ wife, Pamela Clemons, as part of the ongoing homicide investigation into Shakur’s death. During the search, law enforcement officers confiscated several computers, laptops, iPads, and a .40-caliber cartridge, the same type as the casings recovered from the scene where Shakur was shot, according to a search warrant obtained by The Post.

Greg Kading, a retired LAPD detective who had previously investigated Tupac’s death, commented on Davis’ arrest, stating, “Davis provided the gun and actively sought out Tupac with his nephew. Davis gave the gun to his nephew, who was in the car with them, and collectively, they went out with the intent to harm Tupac. He provided the weapon, and his nephew carried out the shooting, making them all equally culpable under solicitation for murder.”

Kading also expressed his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled because this is a significant development! We always believed this wasn’t an unsolved case, and now it seems they have reached a point where they can officially close it. Tupac’s murder will no longer be considered an unsolved crime in the annals of history.”

Tupac Shakur’s life was tragically cut short while he and his friends were en route to a nightclub in a convoy after attending the Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon world heavyweight title fight in Las Vegas. When the black BMW that Shakur was riding in stopped at a traffic light, a white Cadillac pulled up alongside, and an assailant inside the vehicle fired at least nine bullets, apparently targeting the passenger seat where Shakur was seated. The renowned singer and actor sustained four gunshot wounds during the attack.

Marion “Suge” Knight, co-founder of Los Angeles-based Death Row Records, who produced Shakur’s records, was driving the BMW at the time of the shooting. Although he was grazed by a bullet fragment in the head, Knight suffered only minor injuries.
