Unidentified assailants have reportedly abducted Chief Enibe Francis, the Chairman of Mgbuka Amazu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State. This incident is believed to be linked to the recent sit-at-home protest.

The abduction occurred during the early hours of Monday, September 25, shortly after Chief Enibe Francis had opened the market as per Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directives. Reportedly, the gunmen brutally assaulted him, rendering him unconscious before forcibly taking him away in a waiting vehicle, the destination of which remains unknown.

Several weeks ago, Governor Soludo had instructed market leaders in the state to operate their markets on Mondays, including incorporating prayer sessions and maintaining cleanliness in the markets and surrounding areas.

Chief Humphrey Anuna, the President of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), has confirmed this unfortunate incident. He stated that he has been informed about the situation and efforts are underway to establish contact with the abducted individual.

According to Chief Anuna, “Francis was reportedly abducted when a group of armed individuals, numbering about five, stormed his shop. They fired shots indiscriminately into the air, subjected him to severe physical harm, and subsequently placed him in the trunk of their SUV.”
