The 2023/2024 legal year has officially begun, marked by a special court session held by the Court of Appeal on Monday.
The annual legal year ceremony is a time-honored tradition that marks the beginning of the new legal year. It also offers justices a valuable occasion to contemplate both the achievements and obstacles of the preceding year, assess them, and contemplate the future.
The session was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, retired Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, distinguished Justices from the Court of Appeal, and eminent leaders of the judiciary.
Additionally, joining this esteemed gathering were the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), as well as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Among those present are Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary; Yakubu Maikyau, President of the Nigerian Bar Association; and Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).
