Vice President Kashim Shettimma expresses his gratitude for the opportunity to lead our nation’s lawmakers and encourages them to collaborate diligently to improve Nigeria.
Shettima made this statement while addressing legislators at a retreat organized by the National Assembly leadership in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday.
“We consider ourselves fortunate among Nigerians; we are no superior to our neighbors. Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting a classmate from the University of Ibadan, from our MSc class of 1991,” he remarked.
“The top-performing student in my class was a gentleman named Oladipo. Today, Oladipo finds himself in a mid-tier bank as a DGM. It’s worth noting that he was the highest achiever in our class, which emphasizes that our positions here aren’t solely a result of being the absolute best.”
Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s pivotal role in global affairs and stressed that it cannot afford to let down the black race.
“We bear the responsibility of representing our people, the entire black community. This is the weight we carry. Should Nigeria falter, it would signify a failure of the black race. Therefore, it is imperative that we ensure Nigeria’s success,” Shettima asserted.
The Vice President also offered counsel to the legislators, urging them to exercise prudence and responsibility in wielding their authority, reminding them that this authority has been entrusted to them for the betterment of the Nigerian populace.
“Power is a divine gift. We will spend more time out of power than in it. For me, power is a humbling journey. It should be harnessed for the benefit of our citizens,” he conveyed to the assembled audience.
