Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed his intention to escort the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, to his hometown and provide livestock for him to raise.

Shettima made these remarks during a conversation with reporters shortly after the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday.

After conveying his contentment with the Tribunal’s decision and extending an invitation for his opponents to collaborate with him, one of the reporters inquired whether he intended to follow through on his earlier statement about retiring Atiku, which he had made during the campaign.

The former governor of Borno State emphasized, “We have transitioned from the realm of politics to the era of governance. Atiku Abubakar is a venerable statesman whom I deeply respect.”

“Anyone familiar with the socio-cultural dynamics between the Fulanis and Kanuris in the northern region would understand that I have the freedom to express my opinions, even if they are critical, and he would handle them with grace.

“We have no intention of sending Atiku into retirement in Dubai or Morocco. Instead, I suggest we consider a retirement in Fombina. We could provide him with goats, broilers, and layers, allowing him to enjoy his days tending to cows and poultry.

“On a more serious note, Atiku is an esteemed elder statesman, and our nation greatly values his experience. Experience is a priceless commodity that cannot be bought in the market. We should leverage his wealth of knowledge and exposure to elevate our nation to new heights. The era of politics is behind us; it is now the era of governance that truly matters.”

In a significant ruling on Wednesday, the five-member panel of judges decisively rejected the petitions lodged against Tinubu, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election.

The Tribunal dismissed the petitions filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), as well as those presented by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP) along with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have expressed their disagreement with the verdict and have stated their intention to consult with their legal counsel to determine their next course of action.
