The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed immigration officials to eliminate the prolonged queues for travel passports experienced by Nigerians.
In a statement released by the Minister’s chief press secretary, Alao Babatunde, it was conveyed that the Minister issued this directive during a concise meeting with Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, the acting Comptroller General of Immigration, and Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
During the meeting, the Minister stated:
“Recently, I held a productive discussion with the President. He is determined and expects concrete results.
We must now act and deliver without room for excuses, those unable to contribute to Nigeria’s progress effectively will be asked to step aside, as our potential for greatness is substantial.
Share your challenges with me, I am committed to assisting you in finding solutions, your achievements will reflect my success as well.
The era of mere dialogue has passed, action-oriented solutions are what we need. It is unacceptable for Nigerians to endure prolonged queues while seeking passports. This pattern must cease. Our current reality falls short of the Nigeria we envision. I urge you to outline the agency’s obstacles. Collaboratively, we must harness and apply our skills to surmount them. Nigerians are counting on us to fulfill our pledges. Any officers unprepared for the demanding tasks ahead will be appropriately relieved.”
