The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has fervently encouraged the valiant troops of the Nigerian Army to stand unwavering and resolute. He emphasized the imperative of safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and expeditiously reclaiming the territories currently under the grip of terrorists and bandits across various regions of the nation.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) made these remarks on Tuesday during his visit to troops in Niger State. This visit followed an insurgent ambush on troops in the Zungeru general area, resulting in the unfortunate sacrifice of valiant Nigerian Army personnel.
Additionally, a MI-171 Helicopter of the Nigerian Air Force, engaged in a critical casualty evacuation mission, unfortunately crashed on Monday within the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
During his presence at the Forward Operating Base Erena located in the Shiroro region, the COAS received a comprehensive security briefing from Major General Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division.
In a direct address to the troops immediately after the briefing, the COAS fervently encouraged them to unite and display heightened determination in quelling the activities of the nation’s adversaries. He emphasized the crucial mission of reestablishing stability in areas grappling with turmoil.
In a recent statement provided by Army spokesperson Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) emphasized the justness of the campaign against insurgents and bandits. This endeavor stands as a crucial defense of both the people of Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
He articulated, “The protection of lives and the safeguarding of our nation represent the most honorable contributions one can make. Each of you is engaged in the esteemed profession of arms and it is imperative that your spirits remain resolute. Our duty entails prevailing over those who threaten our populace and reclaiming every inch of our territory where they may have entrenched themselves.”
Lt Gen Lagbaja reassured the troops of his unwavering commitment to leveraging all available resources to ensure the utmost well-being of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.
He emphasized that this commitment ranks highest among the guiding principles of his Command Philosophy. He directed the prompt augmentation of the troops with supplementary combat support elements to amplify their operational prowess.
