Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued a directive to impose a ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists, commonly referred to as “okada,” in the Umuahia and Aba metropolis.
As conveyed by Governor Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, this directive shall come into immediate effect.
Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, the Governor of Abia State, has issued a directive for the immediate suspension of commercial motorcyclists, commonly referred to as Okada, within Umuahia, the capital of the State, and the Aba Metropolis,” the official statement stated.
“Commencing from Monday, August 14, 2023, any motorcycle observed operating for such purposes on the streets of Umuahia and Aba townships will be subject to confiscation by the relevant security agencies.”
Furthermore, security agencies have been explicitly instructed to apprehend any individual found contravening this directive, with the intention of pursuing potential legal action. This instruction is effective immediately.
