Enugu state government has taken decisive action to address the escalating activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements within the region. Unauthorized use of vehicles equipped with tinted windows has been prohibited as a significant step towards curbing these unlawful acts.

Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu Government (SSG), highlighted that this prohibition is a direct reflection of the government’s unwavering commitment to combating the illicit operations of kidnappers and criminals across the state.

This prohibition will come into effect four weeks from the date of this announcement, with the subsequent implementation beginning on September 4. The official statement reads as follows:

“The purpose of this measure is to provide owners of vehicles with tinted windows, who had not obtained the requisite Police Tinted Permits prior to the discontinuation of its issuance by the Nigeria Police Force on June 7, 2021, ample time to remove or replace the tinted glass if they are originally fitted by the manufacturer, as stipulated by the law.

Vehicles found in violation of this directive will be confiscated by the designated enforcement taskforce and will only be released to their owners upon removal or replacement of the tinted windows, accompanied by the payment of the specified fines.”

In light of these developments, Professor Onyia earnestly appeals for the understanding and cooperation of the general public. This collective effort is crucial in achieving the shared objective of enhancing public safety and security within the state.
