Maryam Shettima, also known as Maryam Shetty, has responded to the news of her ministerial nomination being withdrawn by President Bola Tinubu. She learned of the withdrawal when she arrived at the National Assembly for her screening on August 4, and was informed that her former classmate, Mariya Mahmoud, had been chosen as her replacement.

In her reaction on August 5, Maryam expressed that she sees this turn of events as the will of God. She released a statement stating her perspective on the situation. She initially felt immense honor and pride when President Tinubu nominated her as a minister, as it represented a significant step towards inclusive national representation, particularly for young women from traditional regions of northern Nigeria.

Despite the unexpected setback, Maryam’s faith as a devout Muslim guided her understanding, and she viewed it as Allah’s divine will, acknowledging that His plans are always superior to ours. She continued to express gratitude to President Tinubu for considering her for such a prestigious position and conveyed her determination to serve Nigeria in any capacity she can, seeing this as a mere stepping stone rather than an end.

Maryam thanked her supporters, both in Nigeria and from international organizations and communities, for their overwhelming support during this phase of her life. She remained hopeful about her future in politics, stating that “Hope is not lost; maybe I will come back again.”

She concluded her statement by urging everyone to continue praying for Nigeria and to support the President in his efforts to better the country, emphasizing unity under the #WEBELIEVE campaign.

Maryam also extended her prayers for the good health and strength of President Tinubu and his Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima. She ended her message with a heartfelt wish for blessings upon Nigeria, The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
