President Bola Tinubu acknowledges the challenges that Nigerians are currently facing due to the economic policies implemented by his government.

Fellow Nigerians, we find ourselves in challenging times, and I acknowledge that it’s undeniably tough. However, I implore all of you to see beyond the current temporary hardships and focus on the bigger picture. Rest assured, our government has devised comprehensive and beneficial plans, and they are already in motion. I have full confidence that these measures will yield positive results.

Regrettably, the removal of subsidies had a transitional period before the implementation of these plans could take full effect. Nevertheless, I want to assure you that we are diligently closing the time gap. I earnestly request you to place your trust in our ability to deliver on our promises and our unwavering commitment to your well-being.”

The Nigerian leader recently made a significant decision to end the payment of fuel subsidy, among other measures. While this move has led to an increase in the pump price of fuel and a rise in the cost of living, Tinubu empathized with the challenges faced by Nigerians.

He acknowledged the current tough economic situation and the hardships citizens are enduring due to the higher fuel prices. The soaring costs have also affected essential goods like food, putting pressure on households and businesses alike.

Tinubu expressed his understanding of the anxiety and uncertainty prevalent in the country. He emphasized that he wishes there were alternative solutions, but unfortunately, there are none. He asserted that his intention was always to aid and support the people and the nation he holds dear, not to cause harm.

In summary, the Nigerian leader’s decision to end the fuel subsidy has led to an increase in fuel and living expenses, but Tinubu stands by his commitment to help his country, even in challenging times.

According to Tinubu, the Nigerian government has achieved significant savings, totaling over N1 trillion, since the end of the subsidy era.

“In just a little over two months, we have successfully saved over a trillion Naira that would have otherwise been wasted on unproductive fuel subsidies, which primarily benefitted smugglers and fraudsters.”

Tinubu emphasized that these substantial savings will now be put to better use, directly benefiting the citizens and their families. He stated, “This money will be utilized more efficiently and in a way that benefits you and your families directly.”

“For instance, we are committed to fulfilling our promise of making education more affordable and accessible to all. Additionally, we will extend financial assistance in the form of loans to higher education students who may require financial support. Our aim is to ensure that no Nigerian student is forced to abandon their education due to financial constraints,” Tinubu further explained.
