Two men have been arrested by troops of Sector 1, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), over the alleged vandalism of government-installed solar street lights in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Isiyaku Mohammed and 27-year-old Ali Kazaure, were apprehended on August 7, 2026, during a routine patrol in Babawo village.
According to a military source, personnel attached to Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, spotted the suspects allegedly tampering with solar lighting infrastructure installed by the government along the road.
The troops reportedly arrested the two men at about 4:20 p.m. and subsequently handed them over to the Keystone Outpost in Babawo for further investigation.
Authorities are expected to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement and determine whether they may have connections to other cases of vandalism involving public infrastructure in the area.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the protection of government-funded infrastructure, particularly solar street lights installed to improve security and visibility in communities.
